Easter Island is known to most for its iconic moai statues, but its history is much deeper and more complex. This remote patch of land, scattered in the vastness of the Pacific Ocean, holds the story of a people who flourished in an extreme environment, giving rise to a sophisticated civilization, with grand architectural projects, complex social structures, its own language and writing, and a culture steeped in myths and ancestral rites.
This selection of thirty photographs comes from a five-year experience on the island, a period during which the author was able to immerse herself in the daily life of the island, learning about its customs, traditions, and hidden landscapes. Her integration into local life and work in the field of graphic design allowed her to assist with archaeological projects, contributing to research on the island’s colonization and the evolution of Rapa Nui society.
The images, created with various cameras and devices, offer an intimate look into a distant and fascinating reality, telling the story of an authentic and natural beauty. A visual journey that restores the magic of a place where time seems to have stood still, between the traces left by ancient Polynesian navigators and the life of those who still today preserve the memory of a mythical past.
